Novice creators are welcome and encouraged! Formal instruction will not be provided – but you will be in the fellowship of other creative folks who can support you on your journey! Bring any art supplies you want to work with – watercolors, pastels, and colored pencils are lightweight beginner-friendly art materials.

Be sure to bring anything else you need for a few hours working at the beach: chair, blanket, easel, hat, etc.

    • Hendry's Beach 2981 Cliff Dr (next to the entrance of The Boathouse restaurant) Santa Barbara, CA, 93109

Join fellow walkers at Hendry's Beach (aka Arroyo Burro Beach County Park) every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 8:40 to walk the beach, visit, make new friends and catch up with old friends, spot whales and dolphins, and get fresh air and exercise. We'll meet at the top of the stairs down to the beach, between The Boathouse restaurant and the lifeguard stand. Some of us walk fast, and some of us stroll. We suggest wearing appropriate shoes to walk on the beach or up to the nearby Douglas Preserve, when the tide is high. After the walk, we will often gather at the picnic tables near our starting point, and share a snack and conversation. Hope to see you there!

    • West Cold Springs Trailhead

    West Fork Cold Springs Trail

We will follow the  West Fork of the Cold Springs Trail up to Gibraltar Rd. with its sweeping views of Santa Barbara and the Channel Islands. Then it’s back down the gradual trail. Hiking Distance: About 4.8 miles round trip. Elevation gain: 1200 feet.  About 2-2.5 hours.  This is an out and back hike with opportunities to turn back anytime for a shorter hike. Hiking poles are recommended as there is a lot of scree on the upper portion. There is a water crossing but it is not difficult.

    Google Maps for the trailhead

DIRECTIONS: Meet at the Cold Springs trailhead on E. Mountain Drive. From either direction on Fwy 101, exit at Olive Mill Road and turn toward the mountains. Continue up Olive Mill Rd 1.0 mile, crossing East Valley Rd where name changes to Hot Springs Rd. After another 1.0 mile turn left on East Mountain Drive. Go 1.1 miles to trailhead on the right (You’ll probably see cars & hikers when you first turn onto East Mountain Drive. That is another trailhead.  Do not stop. Continue 1.1 miles.). Cold springs bridge is now open so you can also drive up and park on the west side of the trailhead.

    • 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM
    • 634 State Street, Santa Barbara, California, 93101

Join us for happy hour at M.Special Brewing Co., where great beer and great stories go hand in hand. Named after their Grandpa Emmett’s 1950s race cars — including the legendary Malloy Special that hit the Indy 500 — M.Special is a family-inspired brewery where anyone with an "M" in their name (yes, even the mailman) gets some naming cred.

Their beer lineup is as diverse as their crew, featuring the crisp M.Special American Lager, hop-forward favorites like Greatland IPA and Lazy Eye DIPA, and the smooth, malty Dozer Brown Ale. Swing by for TGIF and enjoy good vibes, great brews, and a happy hour that lives up to its name. Cheers!

Also, nestled within M. Special Brewery is Beast Taqueria featuring Chef Ramon Velazquez of Corazon Cocina. Dive into a fusion of traditional Mexican and American comfort delights, from smash burger tacos to gringa quesadillas, while basking on the sunny patio or enjoy the indoor brewery ambiance.

    • September 21, 2025
    • 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
    • Shalawa (Hammond's) Meadow Trail

"The Sacredness of the land lies in the minds of its people. This land is dedicated to the Spirit and memory of the ancestors and their children." - Shalawa Monument. Join us for a lovely morning coastal hike on the Shalawa Meadow Trail (also know as the Hammond's Meadow Trail), at the point of a Chumash community village and burial site, where ceremonies are still held during significant celestial events such as solstice and equinox. The trail strolls through a forest of palm and eucalyptus trees along the high hedges and flowering bougainvillea bushes of Montecito. This path connects Miramar Beach, Hammond's Beach, and Butterfly Beach, and crosses over Montecito Creek. The walk is about 2 miles round trip on level ground. To reach the trailhead, from Santa Barbara, drive on Highway 101 south to the San Ysidro Road exit (exit 93). Turn right on Eucalyptus Lane and drive south .1 mile (towards the ocean) to a small parking lot at the end of the road, just past Bonnymede Drive. If the lot is full, additional parking is located on Humphrey Road, the first street to the north. Look for the red Newcomers sign. Dogs are welcome on leash. After our amble, please join us for coffee, tea, and other treats at the Montecito Coffee Shop, 1498 E Valley Road, about 5-10 minutes up San Ysidro Road.

    • UCSB North Campus Open Space 6969 Whittier Drive Goleta, CA, 93117

Join Weekend Amblers on our popular UCSB North Campus Open Space walk, a crowd favorite! The NCOS estuary, upland, and wetland restoration project supports a diversity of birds, fish, and wildlife, absorbs flood waters, and is adaptive to sea level rise on 136 acres of a former golf course. Two and a half miles of relatively level trails provide scenic views and great photo ops, taking us out to the beach and back. For this walk, due to the bird habitation, especially the snowy plover nesting project on the beach and the end of their nesting season, we are asking that dogs don't participate this day. The main entrance and parking lot for NCOS is just west of Storke Road at 6969 Whittier Drive, Goleta. Look for the red Newcomers sign and park at the visitor plaza. After this afternoon amble, we will take a little wine time at the Samsara Winery Tasting Room, 6485 Calle Real, Suite E, Goleta, CA 93117, in the Carneros Business Center. This winery curates its lovely wines from select vineyards in the Santa Rita Hills. You might take home a bottle (or two!) after all that exercise!
