Happy Hikers - Arroyo Burro

  • February 21, 2020
  • 8:30 AM
  • Cater Water Plant trailhead

This is a Friday 8:30am meetup – no need to register.

Arroyo Burro Trail – Friday 8:30am.  The Arroyo Burro Trail is an historic trail. In the days before automobile travel, trails were the only way over the impenetrable mountain barrier between the coast and the interior. Arroyo Burro supplied a route for miners and other trades.  We will hike about 4 miles of the Arroyo Burro Trail with an 1100 ft elevation gain.

The trail starts at the Cater Filtration Plant and follows the first part of the Jesusita Trail. It winds up 1/2 mile of paved road before going by some horse stables and a few beautiful homes, then climbs up through some lovely views of the Goleta coastline. Many of us will turn around at the water tank or go a little further to the sandstone formations.

The hike is rated as Moderate (to the water tank only) to Strenuous (from the water tank to the sandstone formations) and will take roughly 2-2.5 hours total.
