Cold Springs Ridge Loop to Montecito Overlook

We will follow the Cold Springs Trail to the Edison Catway and Montecito Overlook, with its sweeping views of Santa Barbara and the Channel Islands. Then it’s back down the gradual trail. Hiking Distance: About 4 miles round trip. Elevation gain: 1200 feet.  About 2.5 hours.

Optional Hike

Optionally, a group of us mauy continue on the Cold Springs Trail to a short but steep trail up to Montecito Peak.  Hiking Distance: 6.8 miles round trip if you go all the way! Elevation gain: 1939 feet. Hiking time 3.5 hours.

DIRECTIONS: Meet at the Cold Springs trailhead on E. Mountain Drive just east of the stream crossing. There is ample street parking on weekdays. From either direction on Fwy 101, exit at Olive Mill Road and turn toward the mountains. Continue up Olive Mill Rd 1.0 mile, crossing East Valley Rd where name changes to Hot Springs Rd. After another 1.0 mile turn left on East Mountain Drive. Go 1.1 miles to trailhead on the right, just before the creek crossing.  (You’ll probably see cars & hikers when you first turn onto East Mountain Drive. That is another trailhead.  Do not stop. Continue 1.1 miles.)
